Distinguished Guests, Ladies and Gentlemen:

Happy New Year! It is my great pleasure to join you this evening. First, I wish every one of you a healthy and prosperous year of the Horse. I also wish to express my appreciation to Deloitte Consulting for its longtime efforts in promoting business exchanges between China and the United States

The business community of our two countries has always been a crucial driving force for the development of China-US relations. And the trade and economic cooperation has been described as the ballast of our bilateral relations by Chinese President Xi Jinping.

This year marks the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and the United States. For the past three decades, the development of China-US relations has exceeded the imagination of many people, which has benefited not only our two countries, but also the peace, stability and prosperity of the world.

Compared with 35 years ago, China-US relationship is now witnessing completely different international situation and domestic conditions of both countries. However, the importance of this relationship has never been diminished. Instead, as China and the US being the two largest economies in the world, their relationship has become more important than ever.

Just as a 35-year-old young man who is full of vitality, China-US relationship is faced with enormous new opportunities for future development. The new round of reform and opening-up, which has been ushered in by the Third Plenum of the 18th CPC Central Committee last November, will not only provide lasting driving force for China's sustainable development, but also broaden the prospect for China-US cooperation.

The ongoing restructuring of the Chinese economy, together with other factors, has caused some slowdown in China's economic growth, but the slowdown itself has been slow. The Chinese government has the ability and confidence to steer China's economy smoothly and achieve a healthier economic development for the long run.

China is definitely still a promising land for foreign investors, an ever-growing market for foreign products, and also an increasingly important FDI source for the world. China's economic growth will continue to be the important engine for the expansion of China-US trade and economic cooperation.

The year 2013 was of great significance in China-US relations. President Xi Jinping and President Obama, during their historic meeting in California last June, agreed to build a new model of major-country relations. The essential features of this model include no conflict or confrontation, mutual respect and win-win cooperation.

This important agreement has charted the future course for our bilateral relations. The Chinese side is ready to work with the US side to enhance strategic mutual trust, maintain the momentum of close exchanges at the top and other levels, deepen mutual understanding, avoid misunderstanding, and expand our cooperation in various areas to achieve a stable development of the bilateral relations.

As the most populous country in the world, China still has a long way to go to help the Chinese people live a better life. China will always pursue the path of peaceful development. The Chinese Dream as announced by President Xi Jiping is a dream of peace, development, cooperation and win-win results. China is ready to shoulder international responsibilities commensurate with its national strength and realities and contribute more to the peace and prosperity of the world.

In closing, I wish all of you good health and great success in the New Year.

        Thank you.
