On February 6, Mr. Zhao Weiping, the Chinese Consul General to Chicago, delivered the keynote remarks at a Chinese New Year reception hosted by Deloitte Consulting for Chinese and US businessmen in the Greater Chicago.

Consul General Zhao said that since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the United States 35 years ago, the development of China-US relations had exceeded many people's imagination, which had benefited not only the two countries, but also the peace, stability and prosperity of the world.

"As China and the US being the two largest economies in the world, their relationship has become more important than ever," he stressed, anticipating enormous new opportunities for future development of this relationship.

The Consul General also pointed out that the new round of reform and opening-up in China would not only provide lasting driving force for the country's sustainable development, but also broaden the prospect for China-US cooperation.

"China is definitely still a promising land for foreign investors, an ever-growing market for foreign products, and also an increasingly important FDI source for the world," Consul General Zhao said.

Consul General Zhao emphasized that the Chinese side was ready to work with the US side to push China-US relations toward the goal of building a new model of major-country relations.

He expressed hope that the US business community will continue to be proactively committed to promoting China-US trade and economic cooperation.

The nearly-200 participants of the reception also included Beth Mueller, Deloitte Tax LLP's U.S. Inbound Services leader, Siva Yam, President of US-China Chamber of Commerce, and others.
