Distinguished Guests, Ladies and Gentlemen,

Good evening.

It is my great pleasure to host this reception in celebrating the 65th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China.

First, I wish to express my warm welcome and sincere thanks to all of you for your gracious presence. I also want to take this opportunity to extend my cordial greetings and best wishes to the members of the Chinese Community and friends from all circles of life in our consular district.

At this moment, we are celebrating not only the remarkable achievements China has made over the past year, but also the new progress in the development of China-US relations as well as the cooperation between China and the nine states in our consular district.

This is an important year of deepening reform for China. The Chinese government and people have been making great efforts in carrying out the ambitious and comprehensive reform program as announced at the end of last year. It is not an easy task, but the determination of the Chinese government and people to push forward the reform is firm and unshakable.

Some tangible results of the reform have already been seen, and China's social and economic development is progressing in conformity with the goal of the Chinese government. The economic growth rate this year is expected to be kept around 7.5%, the inflation will remain low and the employment situation will continue to be good. China's economy will further prosper, and there is no possibility of the co-called hard landing in the foreseeable future.

The overall China-US relationship has advanced steadily in spite of disagreements between the two sides on certain issues from time to time, with practical cooperation deepened in many fields. For the first half of this year, China-US bilateral trade reached 256.4 billion US dollars, representing 5% increase over the same period last year. According to latest statistics, Chinese investment in the US has increased to about 40 billion US dollars. Today, about 240,000 Chinese students are studying on US campuses. Nearly 4 million people travel between China and the US every year. The interests of our two countries are so deeply intertwined that every one of us can feel the benefits of a sound China-US relationship.

We have great confidence in the future of China and China-US relations. In pursuit of the Chinese Dream of the national rejuvenation, China will unswervingly adhere to the path of peaceful development and continue to work hard in building the new model of major country relationship between China and the US. China-US relations are endowed with another important opportunity of development, as President Obama is going to visit China again in the coming November.

I sincerely hope that friends in our consular district will continue to seize the opportunities arising from the development of China's economy and China-US relations. By working together, we will certainly elevate the friendly relationship and cooperation between China and the nine states in our consular district to a new level.

Now, I propose a toast,

to the prosperity of the People's Republic of China and the United

States of America and our two peoples' well-being,

to the friendship of our two peoples,

to the health of all the distinguished guests.

Cheers!
