Consul General Hong Lei meets Michigan Governor Snyder and Detroit Mayor Duggan
2017-01-09 11:55

On January 9, Consul General Hong Lei met with Michigan Governor Rick Snyder and Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan in Detroit, MI.

Consul General Hong Lei congratulated Governor Snyder on his successful and fruitful visit to China last November. He said that the Consulate General would like to work with the State Government to implement the outcomes of the visit and promote cooperation between the two sides in various fields. Consul General Hong Lei said that in 2017, cultural exchanges between China and Michigan will usher in new highlights. Guangdong Province, Michigan's sister province in China, will send an art troupe to Detroit during the Chinese Lunar New Year to present excellent performances for American friends and overseas Chinese. In July, the 100-year-old Detroit Symphony Orchestra will visit and perform in Shanghai, Chongqing, Wuhan and Xi'an, bringing artistic enjoyment to the Chinese people. Currently, China-US relations are undergoing an important transitional period. The Consulate supports more sub-national friendly cooperation between Michigan and Chinese provinces and cities so as to jointly promote the healthy and stable development of China-US relations.

Governor Snyder said that his delegation was warmly received by the Chinese side and achieved satisfactory results during the visit. Michigan attaches great importance to its cooperation with China. I look forward to once again visiting China and further expanding our bilateral cooperation. Michigan welcomes the visit of the Guangdong Provincial Art Troupe, which embodies the importance Guangdong attaches to its sister province/state relations with Michigan. I am also glad to learn that the Detroit Symphony Orchestra will visit China and hope the Chinese people will like it.

Mayor Duggan said his visit to China with Governor Snyder last year left him with a very good impression. He found in China many opportunities for cooperation and hopes the city's cooperation with China will yield new results in the new year.
