Consul General Hong Lei Visits District Office of Congressman Pocan of Wisconsin
2017-06-17 03:32

On April 14, Consul General Hong Lei visited the district office of Congressman Mark Pocan in Madison, Wisconsin and met with District Director Dane Varese. Deputy Consul General Liu Jun attended the meeting.

Consul General Hong Lei said that in recent years, the relationship between China and Wisconsin enjoyed in-depth development and the cooperation between the two sides has been fruitful. China is the second largest trading partner and the third largest export market of Wisconsin. Chinese enterprises have invested nearly US$600 million here and created more than 1,300 jobs. There are more than 6,000 Chinese students studying in various universities in Wisconsin. Earlier this month, President Xi Jinping met with President Trump at Mar-a-Lago in Florida. The two heads of state enhanced mutual understanding and trust, confirmed the direction and principles of the development of China-US relations and planned priorities and mechanisms in bilateral cooperation. The meeting was a complete success. We hope Congressman Pocan will continue to support Wisconsin's deepening cooperation with China and play an active role in the development of China-US relations.

Director Varese welcomed Consul General Hong Lei and said that Congressman Pocan attached importance to US-China relations and closely followed the first meeting of the two heads of state. The congressman is glad to see Wisconsin's continuous expansion of cooperation with China and the district office would like to keep in touch with the Consulate General in this regard.
