Consul General Hong Lei said that the the nine states covered by Chicago Consulate General have more than 80 thousand Chinese students. In general, they enjoy a good study and living environment. However, we have also seen quite a few consular protection cases involving Chinese students in recent years, and some of them turned out to be heartbreaking. The Consulate General has been attaching great attention to the safety of Chinese students, hoping that the students could enhance their awareness of safety and have a safe and successful overseas study experience.

During the meeting, Consul Lu Xiaohui from Overseas Chinese Affairs Office, Officer Joe Incaprera from Chicago Police Department, Mr. Paul Lee, Legislative Assistant from Mayor’s Office and Dr. Daolong Zhang, psychiatrist from University of Illinois at Chicago also gave lectures on consular protection, safety tips in daily life, legal protection and psychological health, etc..

Students at the meeting said that they were happy to come to Chicago and meet with Consul General Hong. The lectures from the consul, police and experts were very relevant and helpful. They will make good use of their time here to study hard and acquire more knowledge, take care of each other and live up to the expectations of the motherland.
