On November 5, Consul General Hong Lei attended the "Magnificent China 2017" US-China Cultural Art Festival held at the Ford Community and Performing Arts Center in Detroit. Michigan State Representative Christine Greig, State Representative Stephanie Chang, Director of the Michigan Office for New Americans Bing Goei as well as nearly 1,000 overseas Chinese and American friends also attended the event.

In his address, Consul General Hong Lei said that the North American Chinese Coalition, the Chinese Association of Greater Detroit and the Chinese School Association of Michigan have made long-standing commitment and unremitting efforts to promote Chinese culture in Michigan. For Chinese descendants, the Chinese culture is their root. For American friends, the Chinese culture is an important component of the cultural diversity in America. We hope the US-China Cultural Art Festival will help everyone to appreciate the beauty of Chinese culture and deepen our mutual understanding.

Consul General Hong Lei said that the 19th Congress of the Communist Party of China was just concluded. This Congress outlines a blueprint for the development of China in the next 30 years. By 2050, China will become a modern power. The steady development of China in the next 30 years will provide more opportunities for all countries in the world, including the United States. I hope that both China and the United States will engage in closer cooperation to advance our bilateral ties.

An exhibition of calligraphy and paintings was held during the cultural festival. In addition, the festival presents wonderful performances including singing, dancing, instrumental music and recital. There was also a children’s painting competition involving one hundred participants.
