On November 9, Consul General Hong Lei visited District offices of Senator Debbie Stabenow and Senator Gary Peters in Detroit and met with District Directors Terry Campbell and Chris Mauts respectively.

Consul General introduced the exchanges and cooperation between China and Michigan and China-US relations. He said that in recent years, cooperation between the two sides has enjoyed a strong momentum. General Motors and Ford from Michigan have witnessed continuous sales growth in China, and quality products from Michigan have become increasingly popular among Chinese customers. Since 2010, China has invested over 1.1 billion US dollars in Michigan, maintaining and creating over 10,000 jobs. Over 10,000 Chinese students study in universities in Michigan, bringing strong impetus to bilateral exchanges. The cooperation between China and Michigan well demonstrates the booming development of China-US relations featuring win-win cooperation.

Consul General Hong Lei pointed out that the 19th CPC National Congress rolled out an action plan and a blue print for the Chinese people to build a strong modern socialist country that is prosperous, democratic, culturally advanced, harmonious and beautiful and realize the Two Centennial Goals. China’s development will continue to provide the world with vital development opportunities and inject new momentum into China-US relations. China and the US are the two largest economies in the world and each other’s largest trading partners. Additionally, both of our two countries are permanent members of the UN Security Council, shouldering great responsibilities to maintain and develop the most important bilateral relationship in the world. President Trump just concluded his historic state visit to China successfully. China-US relations have come to a new starting point. China would like to work the US to deliver more gains to the two peoples, and people around the world by respecting and cooperating with each other, pursuing mutual benefits and managing differences. The Chinese side is willing to keep in touch and enhance communication with the two Senators and their district offices in a bid to facilitate the Sister-State-Province relations between Michigan and Guangdong and Sichuan provinces, extend pragmatic relationship in various fields and bring benefits to the two peoples.

Director Campbell and Director Matus welcomed Consul General Hong Lei, saying that they were happy to see that China has become the third largest trading partner and export market of Michigan. The two sides have reached great success in cooperation. President Trump’s visit to China is very successful with many positive outcomes. The district offices would like to enhance communication with the Consulate General to enhance mutual understanding and deliver more benefits to the two peoples by fostering more cooperation among us.
