2017-12-06 23:35

On December 6, Consul General Hong Lei met with Wisconsin State Senate President Pro Tempore Howard Marklein, State Assembly Speaker Robin Vos, State Assembly Speaker Pro Tempore Tyler August and State Assembly Majority Leader Jim Steineke.

Consul General Hong Lei introduced China’s development as well as exchanges and cooperation between China and Wisconsin. Consul General Hong Lei said that the 19th CPC National Congress was convened recently in Beijing, charting a blue-print and time-line for China’s future development. The Congress also provided an action plan for China’s rejuvenation. China’s development will bring more opportunities to the world including the US. China’s relationship with Wisconsin has been deepening in recent years, which has laid foundation for more in-depth cooperation between the two sides in the future. Hong Lei hopes that the state legislature could continue to support cooperation between the two sides in different sectors and play an active role in facilitating bilateral sub-national cooperation.

President Pro Tempore Howard Marklein and Speaker Robin Vos said that China is an important partner of Wisconsin and our cooperation and exchanges are not only complementary, but also enjoy a broad future. The Wisconsin State Legislature supports the two sides to enhance cooperation.

Pro Tempore Tyler August and Majority Leader Jim Steineke recalled their experiences of attending the Second US-China Sub-national Legislatures Cooperation Forum in Wuhan in last September. They were deeply impressed by the fast development of China and Chinese people’s hospitality. They will continue to participate in and promote legislative exchanges with China.
