On January 26th, 2019, Consul Zhang Min of the Cultural Affairs Division traveled to Indiana to attend the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra's "East Meets West" concert. More than 300 people, including Mr. Jordan Rodriguez, International and Latin American Affairs Director of the Indianapolis Mayor's Office, viewed the performance.

In his opening remarks, Consul Zhang Min, on behalf of the Consulate General, congratulated those involved in successfully organizing this performance. She said that this year marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the United States. In recent years, the friendly-city relationship between Indianapolis and Hangzhou has made great advancements. The cascades of beautiful sounds brought to us tonight by famous pipa performer Ms. Wu Man will certainly serve to strengthen these cities’ relationship.

Director Rodriguez welcomed the audience with a Chinese "Hello", and said that as the Chinese Lunar New Year is right around the corner, tonight’s performance will be Indianapolis’ way of starting the celebrations off on a good note. The friendly-city relationship between Indianapolis and Hangzhou is now in its 11th year. May tonight’s concert serve to commemorate this ongoing relationship.

During the concert, pipa performer Ms. Wu Han performed the repertoire of the famous composer and conductor Tan Dun.
