On January 23rd, 2019, Acting Consul General Liu Jun, Deputy Consul General Huang Liming, and all members of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Division of the Chinese Consulate went to Chinatown to bring New Year blessings to various overseas Chinese organizations.

Acting Consul General Liu Jun and his delegation paid successive visits to the Chinese American Association of Greater Chicago (CAAGC), Chinese American Overseas Exchange Association and Chicago Wuyi Association (Two Associations), Hoy Ann Association, Xilin Asian Community Center, Chicago Guangzhou Association, Huang Family Association, Moy's Family Association, Li Family Association, Gee Tuck Sam Tuck Benevolent Association, Lung Kong Tin Yee Association, Eng Family Association, Soo Yuen Benevolent Association, and Yau Clan Association, bringing to them, and the entire overseas Chinese community that these organizations serve, New Year blessings from the motherland, wishing everyone a happy life and successful career.

Acting Consul General Liu Jun introduced to each of these organizations the latest achievements in the development of the motherland in 2018. He remarked, “2018 was the 40th anniversary of China's Reform and Opening-up. On the foundation of furthering reform, China opened its doors even wider. Despite uncertainties in the development of the world economy and the escalating trade friction between China and the United States, China's economy still achieved high-quality development, the nation’s GDP reached 90 trillion yuan for the first time, people's lives continued to improve, and much progress was made in the way of poverty alleviation. Under the wise leadership of the Communist Party, the joint efforts of average Chinese people, and the strong support of all overseas Chinese communities, China's development progressed steadily. We have the confidence, ability, and determination to achieve the two centenary strategic goals on schedule and make vast strides towards the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.”

Acting Consul General Liu Jun then introduced the latest developments in China-US relations. He commented, “In 2018, China-US relations dealt with many complicated factors and arduous challenges. As the interests of China and the United States are inextricably linked, cooperation and mutual benefit are the only correct choices, and confrontation is a dead-end. Cooperation has always brought great and tangible benefits to the people of both nations. The American Midwest, which the Consulate General in Chicago services, has actively carried out cooperation with China, in the maintenance of province-state friendship and economic relations, frequent cultural and educational exchanges, and steady development of local pragmatic cooperation.”

Acting Consul General Liu Jun appraised with high regard the organizations’ efforts in holding various cultural activities over the past year. “These activities actively serve the overseas Chinese community. They are full of mutual benefits and solidarity and play an important role in tightening the community’s bonds. I would like to thank the vast overseas Chinese community and its leaders for their support of the development of the motherland and the cause for opposing Taiwanese independence, as well as for actively promoting China-US cooperation. I appreciate the efforts everyone has put forth to improve the status of the overseas Chinese community and the contributions made in the way of diversifying the cultural landscape of American society.”

Acting Consul General Liu Jun continued, “In 2019, we will usher in the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the People’s Republic of China. This is an important stepping stone on the road to the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. 2019 is also an important year in which China will successfully build a moderately prosperous society in all respects and bring to fruition the first centenary goal. At the outset of 2019, we also celebrated the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the United States. We deem it as critical to ensure the stable and healthy development of China-US relations. I hope the vast overseas Chinese community continues to play an important role in promoting the development of China-US relations and contributes to the promotion of friendly relations and the disintegration of differences. We also hope that the vast overseas Chinese community continues to make active efforts in helping build and reunite the motherland.”

Acting Consul General Liu Jun also articulated, “The dreams and desires of the overseas Chinese community are what give shape to the Consulate General’s overall strategy. Over the past year, the Consulate General has introduced a number of measures to bring greater convenience to the community. In the new year, the Consulate General will do its utmost to work with the overseas Chinese community to provide them with better services.”

The various overseas Chinese organizations all warmly welcomed and hosted, not to mention magnanimously thanked, Acting Consul General Liu Jun and his delegation, for they braced the wind and slushed through the snow to bring to each organization New Year blessings from the motherland. The leaders of these organizations commented, “China’s continued strength gives the overseas Chinese community continued confidence and hope. We sincerely hope that the motherland continues to enjoy ever greater prosperity and soon realizes its great rejuvenation. The vast overseas Chinese community will continue to carry forward the tradition of patriotism, care about the development of the nation, serve as a bridge connecting the economy and culture of both nations, and contribute to the development of China-US relations.” The organizations also expressed their unanimous and firm support for the reunification of the motherland and opposition to Taiwanese independence.
