(May 9, 2015)
Honorable President Carroll,
Members of the Faculty, Parents and Graduates,
Good afternoon! It is my great honor and pleasure to join you at this wonderful event of the 2015 Commencement exercise. On behalf of the Chinese Consulate General in Chicago, I wish to extend my warmest congratulations to the graduates, the parents, and the University.
I congratulate the graduates, because they have just written an important page of life with distinguished achievements during their study at this wonderful university, and from today on, they will embark on a new journey of either continuous academic pursuit or starting professional career.
I congratulate the parents, because they have wonderful children they are proud of, and their children, while pursuing personal dreams, will never fail the hopes of the moms and dads.
I congratulate the University, because it has once again produced so many talented students with the famous brand of Benedictine who are not only academically excellent but also faithful carriers of the values and tradition of this university.
I share your great joys of this beautiful day as well as this important moment. This moment and this day will certainly last long in your fond memories.
As Chinese Consul General, this is also a special day for me, because this year so many Chinese students graduated from this university, and many parents are with us today, having traveled a long way from China.
I am very delighted that the number of Chinese students has been growing in this university, and fruitful exchanges and cooperation have been going on between this university and the universities in China. And this year marks the tenth anniversary of your joint programs with China. Here, I wish to congratulate Professor Zhang Fuchang who has just received the Special Certificate of Appreciation and Recognition Award for his contribution in strengthening the link between China and this university.
In closing, I wish all the graduates a promising future and the university even greater achievements. Thank you.
