Honorable Deputy Mayor Koch,
President Lariviere, Mr. Cyrus Tang,
Distinguished Guests, Ladies and Gentleman,
On behalf of the Chinese Consulate General in Chicago, I wish to extend my warmest congratulations on the grand opening of Cyrus Tang Hall of China in the Field Museum.
I hope you will agree with me that this is another historic day for the Field Museum, which is not only a great treasure of Chicago and America, but also an important cultural institute with high international fame. The opening of the wonderful Hall of China will for sure add to the glamour of this prestigious museum by exhibiting its rich collection of Chinese artifacts.
I want to express my appreciation to the Field Museum for opening this Hall of China. Actually, you have opened a new window on China for the people of Chicago and for all the visitors to this wonderful city. Through this window, they will know more about the history, the civilization and the people of China.
The opening of this Hall of China is also a new symbol of the ever-growing friendly relationship and cooperation between China and Chicago. With the strong support of Mayor Emanuel and the City Government, Chicago's ties with China have been greatly strengthened in extensive areas. I hope that the Hall of China will play its important role as a new cultural link between Chicago and China.
In closing, I wish to express my admiration to Mr. Cyrus Tang. Mr. Tang, as a great Chinese American entrepreneur, has always been dedicated to promoting mutual understanding and friendship between the Chinese and American peoples. This Hall,as we are unveiling today, is his latest contribution in this regard. Thank you again, Mr. Tang. And thank you, everyone, for listening to my speech.
