Information for Mail Service

The Chinese Embassy and Consulates take Chinese Passport Renewal and Authentication Applications sent by mail.  Please read the relevant application instructions, e.g. Authenticatin Insturctions before submitting your application. For Visa applicants who want to mail their applications, please contact Visa Services for instructions.

      You should check the Consular districts of the Embassy or Consulate-General, and be sure the applications go to the correct office, otherwise, the documents shall be returned without processing.
    • Mark your envelope "Authentication Application" or "Application".
    • It takes 7-10 business days to process applications received by mail.
    • No rush service is available for applications received by mail.
    • In addition to the application fee, a $5 handling fee PER PACKAGE shall be charged.
    • Please pay by Money Order, Cashier's Check, or Company Check. Personal checks and cash are not acceptable.
    • Please make the check or money order payable to Chinese Consulate in Chicago.
    • All payments may be written in one check or money order.
    • A self-addressed pre-paid RETURN envelops with sufficient postage must be included.
    • The following RETURN envelops with tracking number/bar code are acceptable: Fedex, Express Mail, etc.
    • Meter stamped envelopes, and certified or registered return mails are not acceptable.
    • The applicant shall fill in his/her name and address as both SENDER and RECIPIENT on the RETURN ENVELOPE instead of the Chinese Consulate in Chicago.
    • Applicants are solely responsible for the correct address and postage provided on their return envelopes.
    • Failure to follow above rules will result in rejecting your application.
    • To facilitate your application, please provide a cover letter with a list of the items being mailed, and your daytime telephone number.
    • Do not make any inquires regarding the status of your application until at least 15 days after the date of submission. In case of emergency, you are encouraged to fax us the name of the applicant, and the telephone number through which we may reach you. We'll answer you as soon as possible.
    • A reviewing fee of $20 shall be charged if you withdraw your application while it is being processed.
    • The Visa Office is not responsible for the loss or damage to your passport and documents, or any mishandling by the post office, or other delivery services.
