Beijing's last severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) patient surnamed Zhang has recovered and is expected to leave hospital "shortly", doctors said Thursday, shortly after the discharge of one of the last two SARS patients in the national capital.

"Zhang has reported no SARS symptoms and met the requirements to be discharged," said Mao Yu, president of Beijing Ditan Hospital, where the two SARS patients were treated.

"Zhang will leave hospital in the coming days," Mao noted, but adding she is still in critical condition owing to other diseases incurred and will be transferred to a general hospital for medical treatment.

Another SARS patient surnamed Yang, 31, a post-doctoral researcher at the institute of virology with the China Diseases Prevention and Control Center, was discharged Thursday after his body temperature remained normal for 10 consecutive days.

The diseases control center said that Yang, looked rosy cheeked, would be sent to a hotel for another 10 days of medical observation.

Meanwhile, the Chinese Ministry of Health reported that no new SARS case had been spotted on the Chinese mainland for the past 24hours.
