CPC leader proposes 'broad vision of the world'

Hu Jintao, leader of the Communist Party of China (CPC), Monday called on Party members to better acquaint themselves with the world situation while pushing forward development at home.

Hu, the general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, made the call Monday afternoon at the 10th group study session of the CPC Political Bureau. The theme of the study session was the world situation and the security environment of China.

Hu said it was imperative to adopt a broad vision of the world to cope with new tasks and improve the governing capability of theParty.

"We need to judge volatile changes in the international situation in a scientific approach, properly cope with the trends of multi-polarization of the world, globalization of the economy and scientific and technological advances and appropriately handlevarious complexities and uncertainties that impact world peace anddevelopment to continuously press ahead with China's modernizationdrive," acknowledged Hu.

He urged officials at various levels, particularly middle and high-level officials, to acquire more basic knowledge concerning international issues and the international community, and always view the world with a broad perspective.

Hu said it was a major topic for the whole Party to steer China's development and create conditions for the development by tapping both favorable and unfavorable factors for China in the international environment for a long period of time to come.

"We should learn to make full use of the favorable factors, actively dissolve unfavorable factors and transform challenges into opportunities," Hu said.

Moreover, he said, as globalization accelerated its pace and China was now a member of the World Trade Organization(WTO), it was imperative to learn and make good use of international rules and norms as soon as possible.

"This is so that China would be able to participate in international economic and technological cooperation and competitions in a still broader scope and on still higher levels,"said Hu.

He called for paying close attention to various risks from the international economic fields, taking active measures to cope withthem properly, respond to concerns of the international community,and enhancing and improving the publicity work, so as to enable the international community to understand China better still.

"We must always put the sovereignty and security of the state at the first place, resolutely safeguard the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the state and resolutely safeguard the security and fundamental interests of the state," the general secretary said.
